Funari is a natural tourist area rich in green landscapes, lakes and clean air, located about 20 km northeast of the city of Elbasan, in the center of a mountainous region with special traditions and natural beauty.
This territory, which includes 17 villages and a vast natural area, is surrounded by seven mountains and crossed by three streams: Zaranika, Kusha and Zalli i Korrës. Funari is known for its dense forests of pine and oak trees, its healthy mountain climate, as well as its four natural lakes or water reservoirs, two of them within the village and two others hidden among the hills.
Funari is often described as an “undiscovered tourist gem”, which is increasingly attracting domestic and foreign visitors, especially those looking for a natural destination for weekend relaxation, rest and outdoor activities. The area has earned the epithet of the “Little Switzerland” of Central Albania, due to its cool climate, peaceful environment and panoramic landscapes.
Funari offers many opportunities for active and nature tourism, including nature walks, hiking in the mountains, tranquility near the lakes and amateur fishing spots. Furthermore, the local residents are known for their hospitality, offering traditional and organic products that enhance the visitors' experience.
In addition to its natural beauty, the area has historical and anthropological value, with signs of habitation since antiquity and toponyms that testify to its early roots.
Funari is increasingly being promoted as a strategic destination for sustainable, natural and active tourism, and the Municipality of Elbasan has launched initiatives to include this area in the region's tourism itineraries.
