Lin is located on the western shores of Lake Ohrid, about 20 km from the city of Pogradec. This tourist village contains traces of an early European settlement, with finds dating back to the Iron Age and earlier. On the hill above Lin are the foundation walls and mosaics of a 6th-century early Christian Byzantine church, which are included in the UNESCO Natural and Cultural Heritage area for the Lake Ohrid Region.
In 2023, an international archaeological expedition discovered a 7800-year-old stilt settlement, making Lin one of the oldest settlements in Europe. The finds include wooden building elements, flint tools, ceramic vessels, and animal bone fragments, attesting to a long and rich history of habitation in the area.
Today, Lin is a tourist destination of great interest, widely visited by local and foreign tourists who come to discover the cultural heritage and unique history of this place, making it a key point of archaeological tourism in Albania.
