The National Tourism Agency (NTA) is a legal, public, budgetary entity, functioning as an institution under the minister responsible for tourism and aiming to promote Albanian tourism domestically and abroad.
As an institution, AKT was first established in 2005 under the name "Tourism Agency", and later, based on Law No. 9734, dated 14/05/2007, it was renamed "National Tourism Agency".
The vision of AKT is to make Albania a year-round, sustainable and internationally competitive tourist destination. This goal is achieved through the promotion of Albanian tourist products and destinations, in line with the National Tourism Development Strategy and the government's vision for economic growth and sustainable development.
AKT aims to encourage, through promotion, investments, develop cultural, natural and adventure tourism, and create special experiences for visitors, contributing to the development of local communities throughout Albania.
The AKT exercises its activity in accordance with the Constitution, Law No. 93/2015 “On Tourism”, as amended, Council of Ministers No. 298, dated 20.04.2016 “On the Organization and Functioning of the National Tourism Agency”, as amended, as well as other legal and sub-legal acts in force.
The AKT has its headquarters in Tirana and its own circular seal, which mentions the legal name of the institution: "Republic of Albania - Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports - National Tourism Agency".
The main function of AKT is to promote Albania as a tourist destination, both domestically and internationally. To this end, AKT implements modern digital marketing policies in tourism, creating a sustainable image of the country at the international level.
Within the framework of this mission, AKT organizes and manages Albania's participation in international tourism fairs, digital promotion, publication of promotional materials, trips for tour operators and various media, as well as other activities of a promotional nature.
AKT also provides information to visitors, travelers and tourists on services, products and tourist destinations, as well as other useful activities and data. AKT cooperates with regional tourism offices, local governments and other organizations operating in the field of tourism to promote tourist products and destinations domestically and abroad.
Other functions include: promoting investments in priority areas for tourism development, promoting tourism projects in cooperation with public institutions, designing and implementing promotional materials in accordance with market trends, implementing the National Tourism Development Strategy and the National Marketing Strategy for the tourism sector, etc.
AKT collects and processes income from rental agreements for areas used in tourism development, controls the implementation of the criteria of existing agreements and manages development agreements with relevant entities. AKT also generates secondary income from payments from entities to which it offers the service of promoting their activities in the spaces managed by it.
